One family in one room, always.
If you ever felt uncomfortable looking at photos of cat boarding facilities, you are not alone. Most keep cats in confined small and stacked cubicles or cages . And if lucky, they are let out for a short time then returned to the box.
We will never want that for our cats, Nopi and Luci.
And it is not what we offer.
At Swirly and Friends, every cat family gets a dedicated, human-sized bedroom for the duration of their stay. Inside the room, your cats move freely. They can stretch out on the floor, perch up high, find a corner to hide in, or spread across the whole space if that is what they prefer. The room is monitored by CCTV too.
Your cats are safe and comfortable, with no wire, no bars and no other cats on the other side of a thin partition.
We understand cats
When a cat is stressed and anxious, they will try to hide to somewhere they feel safer. Usually it is dark and hard to reach places like under or behind furniture or in cardboard boxes. Sometimes they prefer high perched locations. These places allow them to observe their surroundings and assess any potential dangers.
A stressed cat needs space. Not a cage they have nowhere to settle. Somewhere that slowly starts to feel like theirs.
Most cats take a couple of days to relax. Some, a few hours. A few surprise us within the first thirty minutes. However long it takes, we let them set the pace. We will never rush a cat before they are ready. And we will always tell you honestly how they are settling in, not what you want to hear.
"It's hard to find a boarding place that doesn't house cats in a box almost the whole day, so I'm very happy to have found this place as my cats have a whole room to themselves."
Francesca Shanti Nanno, Gundu, Dodot & Belang's mama
What 24/7 care looks like
"24/7 care" sounds like a marketing line, it's not.
It means we live on-site. It means when your cat stirs at 3am, there is a human nearby. It means no one locks up and goes home at 10pm. We sometimes sleep in the same room as the cats.
If your cat is not eating well, we notice. If their energy feels off, we notice. If something or anything happens, we will let you know. We do not wait until pick-up to mention it.
Before you book
- All cats must be healthy, tick-free, flea-free and up to date on vaccinations and preventives. See full vaccination requirements here.
- Please bring your cat's own food, every cat has their own diet, preferences and sensitivities, and keeping their routine consistent helps them settle faster.
- Bring something familiar if you can, a favourite toy, a small blanket or an item of your clothing. Familiar scents make a real difference in how quickly a cat feels at home.
- Not sure what else to prepare? Read our 5 tips to prepare for boarding here.
Questions about cat boarding
Fresh filtered water is always available. Please bring your cat's own food. Cats are creatures of habit and a change in diet during an already unfamiliar stay can upset their stomach and add unnecessary stress.
We send photos and videos to your WhatsApp throughout the day. If your cat is hiding and settling in, we will let you know that too, with honesty about what that means and what we are doing about it. You will never be left wondering.
Most first-timers take a little time to adjust and that is completely normal. Having a private room helps enormously because there is no competition for space, no unfamiliar cats to navigate, and no shared environment to feel threatened by. Give them a day or two. Most cats surprise us.
Yes, in fact, we encourage it. Cats who live together should stay together. They share the room and have each other for company and comfort. It is one of the best things about our one-family-one-room policy.

Cat boarding slots are limited, we only take a small number of cat families at any one time to make sure every cat gets the space and attention they deserve.
